A very different set than Teldec's Bach 2000. The Hanssler Bachakademie, supervised by Helmut Rilling, is not HIP (historic instruments performance). The orchestras are warm and lush (but not huge). The soloists are, in general, extraordinary. The tempos are sane. Hanssler has included fragments of some incomplete BWV's that are not included in the Teldec set; a minor plus but appealing. I found I preferred these traditional instruments and the daring using of forte-piano in place of harpsichord on a few of the recordings (flute sonatas). Highlights for me are The Well-Tempered Clavier Books 1 and 2, Musical Offering, Flute Sonatas, The Motets. I also found I prefer these Cantatas recordings to any other, including the new Koopman, Suzuki and the well-known Leonhart-Harnoncourt. While not the newest recordings, the sound is warmer which I prefer to the new state-of-the-art HIP recordings. Although most of the Cantatas are older recordings, much of the Hanssler Bachakademie edition is newly recorded for this project and the sound is consistent and excellent.

This recording takes obvious first place in performance of this music. Bouncy and youthful when needed and pastoral and nostalgic at other times, this performance is certainly better than the merely dutiful one of Masur on Phillips. Abbado and the COE are especially excellent in the Overture, the B Minor Entr'acte , thought by some to be originally intended as the finale of the B Minor Symphony, and much of the ballet music. The vocal numbers are excellent also. Focusing on the Entr'acte, the performance here is certainly the most interesting of any I've heard, including both those by Marriner , Phillips, and Mackerras , Virgin Veritas. Abbado seems to be making a case for this music as worthy of being the finale of the B Minor Symphony, though he doesn't use it in that role on his recording of that great work. It seems out of place in this incidental music, but it doesn't quite come up to the level of inspiration of the symphony. It's also in a different type of formal design; the symphony uses sonata-allegro and song form for the first two movements, but the Entr'acte is more of a fantasia, a more radical, Romantic method that doesn't seem to quite fit the rest of the Symphony. In any event, the complete incidental music for the forgotten play Rosamunde gets the performance it needs. This is the one to have. And if you want to try a radical method of listening to Schubert's B Minor Symphony, get Abbado and the COE on DG and play their performance of the first two movements, follow that with the Newbould completion of the scherzo played by Neville Marriner , Phillips, and then the possible finale , the B Minor Entr'acte, from this recording.

Franz Schubert is considered one of the greatest composers who ever lived, next to Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. But until recent decades, much of his orchestral output has tended to be overshadowed by the immense number of songs he composed during his short lifespan, he passed away only three months short of his 32nd birthday. One of his greates works in the orchestral arena was the incidental music he composed for Helmina von Chezy's melodramatic play "Rosamunde, Princess Of Cyprus" in 1823. The play itself was a disaster, closing after only two performances; and had it not been for two enterprising English scholars named Sir George Grove and Sir Arthur Sullivan, Schubert's score might well have been lost. Fortunately, because of their efforts, the music has survived; and it receives perhaps its greatest complete recording here with Claudio Abbado conducting the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Beginning with the imposing "Magic Harp Overture", intended for an earlier play, Schubert's "Rosamunde" score is comprised of two ballet sections, three entr'actes, three choruses, a short pastoral passage for winds, and a Romanze for mezzo-soprano, "Der Vollmond Strahlt". Anne Sofie von Otter is excellent in her rendition of the latter; the Ernst Senff Choir is equally good in the choruses; and Abbado and the C.O.E. make the music sing and shine the way Schubert would have wanted it. It is by far one of the best recordings of theatrically-related classical music around, next to Mendelssohn's score for Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and is vigorously recommended.

Mathias Klotz (Santiago de Chile, 1965) sin duda alguna representa a esa juventud que trata de abrirse brecha frente a una casta sudamericana un tanto anquilosada. Su emblematica casa Muller, premio X Bienal Arquitectura de Chile (1995), es una obra singular.
Para Horacio Torrent "La casa Muller es un cuerpo leve aferrado al acantilado, con intenciones minimas de alterarlo; como si pudiera abandonar ese lugar por un momento, su abstracion, como en un perfecto mecanismo de oposicion, restituye la agresividad de la naturaleza. El lugar esperaba una operacion arquitectonica para ponerse en evidencia, para aparecer."

The electronic textbook on designing and design of an interior in many respects recreates opportunities of the popular program « ArCon. Visual architecture ».
3D-designing is widely applied among professionals - architects. For such experts will not make special problems to understand the program of volumetric modelling such as ArCon, created by company " Eurosoftware ". For the unsophisticated user to understand such program it is possible, but a lot of time is required. For simplification of a problem of training to work in the complex program the specialized curriculums are created. There is now such teaching material and for program ArCon. During work the user stage by stage solves a problem of creation of the project of an interior. Thus everyone can choose the apartment, and then, step by step carrying out the operations described in the textbook, to design an interior, to place furniture and to carry out presentation of the project.
In the textbook it is submitted about 200 illustrations, all subtleties of work with illumination and various ways of visualization of the project are considered. The set original, earlier not mentioned working methods with ArCon, being a fruit of collective work of the qualified experts, makes this textbook interesting not only for beginning, but also for experienced users of the program.

But the great internal coherence of his thinking, distilled within his architecture, goes beyond these temporal limits, his own idiosyncrasy and the reduced geographical framework where it developed, to provide a reflection on architecture from an ethical standpoint. Although, recognised as the most important catalan architect after World War II, this implicit depth is perhaps one of the reasons his work has not been widely disseminated.

Am I ready for digital books? I was excited about this new media format thinking I could use images for a screen saver or look at more detail, zoom in; but i was a bit diasppointed. This is better than the Morphosis one I also bought at the same time but many of the images are of limited size and i was hoping they could be viewed on a large format flat screen. Navigation takes a bit of getting used to. I still have a hard time reading content for long periods on the screen. For the price i think this should have been edited as a DVD video/documentray interview for viewing on a TV. It seems this format is stuck between CD and DVD, not a very satisfying experience. I think it should play itself with a commentary than having the user click through the various obscure tabs. There are alot of drawings and renderings that may not be available elseware; Hadid's work is hard to picture, visiting the real building is still the only way to really understand them. Planet Architecture has the best information on some of the most influential architects today and the past. And whats great is that its all grouped in ONE CD, not in a bunch of separate books. Whether you are a student doing a project or an architecture enthusiast these cds are great buys. The cd is easy to navigate and graphically interesting. I suggest you buy one for yourself and a friend.

The results show that, while a satisfactory solution to the problem cannot be found, different formulations represent different approximations to the complete solution of two interacting systems. The third and final part of the book focuses on the problem of dissipation in interacting quantum mechanical systems, as well as the connection of some of these models to their classical counterparts. A number of important applications, such as the theory of heavy-ion scattering and the motion of a radiating electron, are also discussed.

This program immortalizes a gala evening of classical ballet featuring the legendary team of Rudolf Nureyev and Dame Margot Fonteyn.

In An Evening with the Royal Ballet (1963), Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn, the most famous ballet partnership of the 20th century, dance together in the first two numbers, a dreamily romantic treatment of Les Sylphides, with the choreography by Michel Fokine, and a dazzling pas de deux from Le Corsaire. Les Sylphides is treated as an ensemble number, with full involvement by the Covent Garden company as well as graceful solos by the two stars. Le Corsaire, as choreographed by Nureyev, gives him opportunities to display his remarkable technique but also allows Fonteyn to shine.
Neither appears in Frederick Ashton's choreography for La Valse, which gets to the heart of Ravel's music in a visually impressive treatment. In "Aurora's Wedding" from Sleeping Beauty choreographed by Marius Petipa, Fonteyn dances beautifully with David Blair, an excellent Florimund, though not on the Nureyev level. "Aurora's Wedding" has many brilliant solos and, like La Valse, is an impressive showcase for the company.
